Frequently Asked Questions about Fraxel
What is Fraxel?

The Fraxel DUAL 1550/1927 laser treatment targets problematic, aging and sun-damaged skin with microscopic laser treatment zones that penetrate deep into your skin to expedite your body’s healing and remodeling of structural proteins collagen and elastin. The laser itself only treats a fraction of tissue at a time leaving the surrounding tissue intact promoting very rapid healing.

How does Fraxel work?

Fraxel DUAL 1550/1927 treatment resurfaces the skin by stimulating the growth of new, healthy skin from the inside out.

Does the treatment hurt?

To ensure your comfort, topical numbing cream is applied to the skin 30-45 minutes prior to treatment. This allows for your discomfort to be kept to a minimal.

What does the treatment entail?

The numbing cream is applied for 30-45 minutes prior to lasering. The treatment itself then takes between 15-30 minutes depending on the size of the area(s) treated.

How many treatments will I need to see results?

In the clinical studies treatment regimen consisted of 2 to 5 sessions spaced about 4 weeks apart. Results were immediate and progressive, with optimal improvement usually visible in 2 to 3 months post treatment. This time frame and treatment structure allowed for optimal healing and the production of new collagen to replace damaged tissue.

What can I expect after the treatment?

During and after the treatment, you can expect to feel a warm sensation over their skin, similar to a sunburn. After the treatment, we will place a moisturizing mask over the treated area to aid in the healing process. This “sunburnt” sensation should subside within the next day. You can expect to have some redness for the next 1-2 days following treatment which will then be followed by a “bronzing” period, where the skin has a dry and tight sensation. We urge you to keep the treated area moisturized and protected over the next 5-7 days following treatment.

Are there any limitations following the Fraxel treatment?

Strict sun protection should be followed for at least 7-14 days post treatment.
